Definition

The Registration Authority responsible for facilitating the registration and maintenance of metadata records that contain technical information only, and are not yet complete with business metadata. Technical information includes, for example, the system names of database tables and columns, and their properties such as data types and formats.

The technical metadata registration option is only used for information about data that has been extracted directly from the relevant system, or otherwise verified by a technical data steward. Technical metatdata registration only applies to ‘Dataset’ and ‘Distribution’ record types in Aristotle, which are used to document databases and tables respectively.

Incomplete The Submitter wishes to notify the existence of a draft technical metadata item to their local workgroup. The item may not be complete or ready for general use. Mandatory requirements include: 1. identifier 2. submitter contact information 3. workgroup name Workgroup Unlocked
Candidate The item is proposed for progression through the registration levels. The item is complete but has not yet been approved for general use. Mandatory requirements include: All attributes required for “Incomplete” status, plus the following: 1. name, 2. definition, 3. technical data steward contact information Workgroup Unlocked
Recorded The registrar has confirmed the accuracy, reliability, and currency of the item and that it is suitable for use within the agency. The Registration Authority has confirmed all mandatory metadata attributes have been completed. Mandatory requirements include: All attributes required for “Candidate” status, plus all mandatory attributes relevant to the metadata item. Members of Services Australia Locked
Qualified The registrar has confirmed the item is suitable for use by authenticated users outside the agency. Mandatory requirements include: The item had a “Recorded” registration status, and the item conforms to applicable quality requirements. Authenticated users Locked
Standard This status is not in use by this registration authority. Authenticated users Locked
Preferred Standard This status is not in use by this registration authority. Authenticated users Locked
Superseded The item is no longer recommended for use and a successor item is preferred. It is retained for historic reference and should refer to the replacement item. Members of Services Australia Locked
Retired The item should no longer be used. It is retained for historic reference and the quality of the item might be no better than in “Recorded” status. Members of Services Australia Locked

Workgroup Members of Workgroups that metadata items belong to can see registration status information at this level.
Steward Organisation Members of the Stewardship Organisation (Services Australia) that this Registration Authority belongs to is in can view registration information, and can see metadata registered with these statuses.
Authenticated users All authenticated users in the Registry can see items registered with this visibility level.
More visible, more users Public Anyone who can view the registry can see items registered with a status with this visibility level. Users do not log in to see this information.
