Indigenous Metadata Registration Authority (active)

Definition:

Definition

The Indigenous Metadata Registration Authority is established within the Aristotle Metadata Registry to serve as the formal delegate of the Indigenous Data Champion. Its primary purpose is to endorse, manage, and elevate metadata items that pertain to Indigenous data, ensuring alignment with the principles of Indigenous Data Sovereignty and the Governance of Indigenous Data Framework.

Functions:

  • Endorsement: Assign registration statuses to metadata items that meet culturally appropriate standards and reflect Indigenous priorities. This ensures visibility, searchability, and authoritative recognition within the registry.
  • Delegation: Act as the operational arm of the Indigenous Data Champion, enabling metadata endorsement workflows even when the Champion is not directly involved in registry administration.
  • Governance Integration: Align with the department’s endorsed rollout of Aristotle as the business metadata registry, including its shared tenancy model and support for inter-agency data exchanges.
